Somerset County Court Proceedings, 1665 1668. 635 Williã Stevens & William Thorne or either of you to be Judge as Liber B No. 1 aforesaid unlesse some one of or Councell be then in Court; And [p. 261 therefore wee Comand you tht you dilligently intend the keeping of the peace Lawes & ordrs & all & singuler other the prmisses & att certaine dayes & places which you or any such foure or more of you as is aforesd shall in tht behalfe appoynte yee make inquires upon the prmisses & pforme & fullfill the same in forme aforesd doeing therein tht wch to Justice apperteineth according to the Lawes ordrs & rea sonable Customes of this or province; Saveing to us the the amceamts & other things thereof to us belonging; And wee Comand the sherriffe of yor said County for the time being by vertue of theis prsents tht att certaine dayes & places wch you or any such foure or more of you as aforesaid, shall make knowne to him to giue his attendance on you & it need require to cause to come before you or any such foure or more of you as aforesaid such & as many good & Lawfull men of yor County by whome the truth in the prmisses may be the better knowne & inquired of; And Lastly wee haue appointed Edmund Beauchamp Clarke & Keeper of the records of proceedings in this yor County Court & therefore you shall cause to be brought before you att the said dayes & places the writts prcepts process & Indictmts to yor Court & Juridiction belonging so the same may be inspected & by due Course determined as aforesaid; Given undr the great scale of this or pvince of Maryland the two & twenty day of August in the flue & thirtieth yeare of or dominion over the sd pvince & in the yeare of Or Lord one thousand six hundred sixty six Wittnes our dear sonne Charles Cal vert esqr or Leiutenant generall chiefe Governor & chiefe Justice of or said province of Maryland The Commissioners oath You shall swear tht as a Commissioner in the County of Sommer sett in all articles in his Lordps Commission to you directed you shall doe equall right to the poor as to the ritch to tW best of yoT Cunning witt & power & after the prcidents & Customes of this pvince & acts of assembly thereof made & tht you hold yor session or Courts as you are directed in yor Comission or according to the act of assembly pvideing in tht behalf e & all fine & amercemts tht shall happen to be made & all forfeitures wch shall fall before you yee shall cause to be entred without any Concealemt & Certifie the same to his Lordps receiuer of this pvince You shall not debarr nor hinder the psecucon of Justice or take any guift bribe or Fee to tht Intent or delaying of Judgemt but shall behaue yor selfe Justly & truly to the best of yor understanding & power soe long as you shall psist in this office & untill you shall be by lawfull authority discharged therefrom so help you God entred the 27th August 1666 The Indorssmt on the Backside of the Commission by the Right [p. 27] Honble Charles Calvert Esqr Leiut: generall |
