His Excellency the Governor communicated to M.r Speaker the
following Message, viz.
Gentlemen of the Lower House of Assembly,
I have received Intelligence that most of the Inhabitants of Penn-
sylvania, who lived Westward of Carlisle, have left their Plantations,
and are retired to the more populous Parts of the Province; and
that the Carlisle Settlement is also breaking up, which will leave
our Northern Frontier, West of the Susquehanna, quite open and
exposed to the Incursions of our savage Enemies. I am also informed
that the French have advanced to the Little-Meadows with a large
Number of Waggons and a considerable Quantity of Military Stores :
This last Advice comes by M.r Chapline, a Gentleman of your House,
to whom I refer you for a more particular and circumstantial
Account.
