wounds (Viz) one through the Bastard Ribbs & Lungs of the breadth Liber B B
of a Burshott & depth of Three Inches, & one other through the third
& fowrth Ribbs, of the breadth of the Bur-shott & depth of Six Inches.
Of wch wounds the sd Richard Morton on the 17th of March, in the
yeare of our Lord 1662 dyed. And soe whether the sd Patrick Due,
of Bromall aforesd in the County aforesd, in manner & forme
aforesd the sd Richard Morton feloniously, & of malice forethought
did kill & murther, against the peace of the Ld Proprietary his Rule

Whereas Richard Morton seafaring man, belonging to Capt Storye
hath this day departed this life, & as it is uehemently suspected tht
on the 14th day of this instant Patrick Due Ouerseer of Willm
Bromalls Plantaon did uiolently assault the foresd Deceased. The
wch assault as is conceaued was the cause of the sd Mortons death.
These are therefore in the name of the Rt honble the Ld Proprietary
to will & requyre yow to summone in Twelue good & honest men of
the neighborhood to make Enquyry thereof. Hereof tayle not forth
with as you will answere the Contrary. Gyuen under my hand the

Wee whose names are here underwritten being summoned by wart
by Mr Willm Turner, to make enquyry of the Death of Rich: Morton
Doe find tht the sd Morton hath receiued his Death by mortall wounds
of Gunshott.

I Stephen Clifton Chyrurgeon of Patuxt Riuer being Called the
14th of March 1662 to uisitt Richard Morton, I fownd him wounded
in his left arme Wth small Burshott, soe tht from the Elbow, to the
upper part of the os humeris there were Eight Orifices. The great
est Orifice was uppon the musculus part, neare unto the musculus
Byceps where a quantity of the shott had entred, making a large Ori
fice to the head of the os humeris, wth seuerall Cauities missing the
Bone, & penetrating into the Center of the Body. Likewise Two other
shotts were placed, the one iust aboue the Bastard Ribbs, penetrating
the Lungs, the other betweene the third & ffowrth Ribbs, into the Body
likewise, by meanes whereof his pulse was weake: His body (as hee [p. 12]
complayned) was extreame cold: Hee talked uery idely, & was uexed
