Upon a View and Consideration of the Contract M^r Ridley has
made with Mess^rs Van Staphorsts; we think it is disadvantageous
to the State, and that the General Assembly would highly approve
of a Transfer, or Relinquishment of it, upon the Terms suggested
in your Letter of the 31^st Ult^o : but it does not appear to us that your
Powers are competent to it, nor would our Concurrence be of any
Avail; you must therefore act according to your own Judgment and
Discretion.

Ordered that the western shore Treasurer deliver to Thomas How
Ridgate for the use of Maurice Simons five hogsheads of Tobacco
weigh⁸ four thousand eight hundred and ten pounds at Nanjemoy
and Chaptico Warehouses in Charles County in lieu of the like Quan-
tity for which M^r Simons had an Order in March 1782 and did not
receive. —

Ordered that the western shore Treasurer pay to Allen Quynn one
hundred and seventy six pounds, thirteen shillings and ten pence half
penny specie due him for wood purchased for the Public per Account
passed. —

way Dep^y Aud. forty three pounds, fifteen shillings and Thomas
Johnson Jun^r Sixty two pounds, ten shillings specie for a Quarter's
Salary to the 1^st Instant.

We wrote to you a few Days ago, respecting the Arrearages due
on Account of the Barges. Besides the Money which will be wanted
for that Purpose, it will be necessary for you to lodge Money, and
that immediately, in the Treasury, for the Interest due on Certifi-
cates, and for the contingent Expences of Government; two or three
hundred Pounds, we presume, will suffice for the latter Purpose, for
the present, and you can judge better than we can, what Sum will be
