explain what was done with the Account of William Barrow the
Surveyor of Dorset County, after it had passed the two Officers. That
Account comprized the Charges of a Journey Fee for surveying
each Parcel of Land contained in Nanticoke Manor, and for each
Lott in the Town of Vienna. The last Charge, upon first View,
appeared to us to be very exorbitant and unjust, we communicated
our Objection to the Auditor General and had a Correction made
accordingly, which occasioned a Deduction of £57.. 5..0. The first
Charge, for surveying each Parcel in the Manor, escaped our Notice
and was not considered by us. Indeed, relying on the Attention and
Judgment of your Office and the Auditor's, we seldom scrutinize with
Strictness, Accounts which have undergone their Examination and

received their Allowance. Some Time after this Transaction, the
Account of Mr Dent was presented, when there were only two Mem-
bers of the Board present, who not being very well acquainted with
the Subject, had Reference to the former Account which was passed
in full Council, and finding that the Charges for the same Services
were not similar, and presuming that the first Account had been
settled agreeable to Law, Mr Dent was permitted to withdraw his
Account.

[Wm Paca in Council to The Surveyor of Washington County]

We are informed by Colo Marbury, that he obtained a special War-
rant of Resurvey on a Tract of Land called Ross' Purchase, in
Order to include some contiguous Vacancy, and that you decline
executing the Warrant because restricted by our Instructions hereto-
fore transmitted to you. This Case appears, from the Representa-
tion of Colo Marbury, to be particularly circumstanced, and it is our
Opinion that the Survey should be made, and that you, in your Cer-
tificate return the particular Circumstances, that the Chancellor may
determine whether it is Part of the Reserve or not, and that you also
send a Copy of this Letter with the Certificate.
