[James Dick, Londontown, to Gov. Lee.]

My Daughter Mrs Stewart being desirous of Returning from New
York to Maryland with some of her Children I Beg Leave to Pray
Your Excellency with the Honble Council will be Pleased to Grant a
Permission to her for that Purpose; which I propose to send to her
by Mr Archibald Buchanan when he Goes. A Late accident to me
by a fall with a Sulky renders me unable to wait upon your Excel-
lency & the Council in Person.

[Fielder Gannt, Frederick to Gov. Lee]

I wrote you last Thursday but detained the letter expecting Coll
Woods return he being hourly expected, but not yet arrived, there
never was worse management, than what is practiced respecting the
prisoners & Guard in Frederick, last Thursday night the Magazeen
was again broake open by the Guard, their waggons go out & take
away wood where ever they see it corded, they have several times
taken wood from me, I have so often toald G. Murdock that I would
supply them with wood, but no person will come out to view it &
take an account of it, I have this day sent to Murdock requesting him
to meet me at the wood & examing it before it is carryed away
If you can spare time pleas to inform me by B. Wood whether
their is a prospect of these Troops being removed speedily I under-
stand the officers a few excepted are going off Imediately they have
done great Injury to our money by offering hard money for sale the
disaffected have got Exchange to 130 p C & I doubt not but in one
month it will be 200, their Bills are purchaStd by Smith Snatsall &c
to great advantage if paid.
The bearer Bob Wood is a buisie fellow I hope you will not men-
tion anything before him that I mention to you,
I have had a very sick family since I came from Annapolis which
prevented my return,

[James Nicholson, Baltimore, to His Excellency Thos Sim Lee Esqr
in Council]

By a Letter received from Philada of the 28th part from the Board
of Admiralty, I am orderd to inquire minutely into the State of all
the Public Naval property delivered, or now remaining in the State
of Maryland, and in particular what has been done with a number
of Twelve pound Cannon that was delivered by Messrs Danl & Sam.
Hughs in this Town, And as I am well informed that two or three of
the States Gallies were Gunned in their Prow & stern with those
Guns, and as those Vessels are now become private property, I have
