We further witness that we are his near Neighbours and we never
knew that he permitted People to stay about his house to drink

Wm [Crookshank?] Matthew Logan Moses Crabstone

We the subscribers Do certify that William Watson the within
Mentioned Petitioner hath behaved himself inoffencively and orderly
and we believe that he hath herein truly represented his Case and we
recommend him to the Notice of your Excellency and Honors more
especially as he hath been a Deserter from the British Army, about
the Commencement of the Present war and we believe his Mistake .
arose from a vulgar Error of People which we now apprehend will
no longer exist

Jas Maxwell Andrew Willock
Samuel Kilpatrick Thos Russel
William Brumbiel John Guffey
Arthur Allexander Matthew [Malaklaun?]

[Doctr Ephrm. Howard of Hy, Elk Ridge, to the Gov. & Council.]

By the waggon you will receive one hundred and seven shovels
forty spades and fifty four Pick axes. The spades and pick axes are
well steel'd the shovels are not steel'd, not conceiving it necessary.
My manager informs me the spades are not so neatly finished as he
could wish; in consequence of the workmen hurrying themselves to
furnish as many as possible this week; tho' the quality not in any man-
ner inferior & they will answer the purpose intended equally well.
The spades are made with sockets as they are sooner finished & will
answer equally as those made otherways & have this advantage should
a handle brake another can be easily put in, a circumstance of conse-
quence in the Army. The manager writes me that the ensuing week,
he can supply a considerable larger number than now sent; also will
furnish a few dozen axes & some hatchets; several circumstances
combined last week which impeded expediting the business. When
the next parcel are sent down, I shall send or bring the acct

[Doctr James Murray to His Excely Govr Lee in Council respecting
Mr. Muir a Draught from Dor. County]

From the appearance of the wound on Mr Muir's Leg & the
Testimony he has produced from several Gentlemen on whose Verac-
ity there is the strongest reliance I am induced to believe that he is
incapable of severe Active Duty in the Field as a Soldier.
