[Robt. Lambdin, Bayside, Talbott Cty, to Stephen Steward at
West River]

I Recd yrs p the Negroes, tht Came in Mr Harrison's Boat, I
am Sorry you sent for the plank without sending the money, as by
Contract was to be paid at the Delivery of the plank, I was promt
in performance, I Expected promt payment, in Consequence of
which; tooke up a sum of hard money on intrest, I therefore Cannot
Let the plank go till I have the hard money for it — it was to forward
yr Business & to gett some hard Cash or I should not have undertook
ye Jobb at such a Disadvantage as I did, therefore I hope you'll not
take a miss my not Letting the plank go pray make my Case yr own
in this matter and think how you would act.
As for the 4 or 500 feet of 3 1/2 pine plank you writte to me for I
Cant tell till I see you to agree on price (or some body forges) But
in any thing tht I can serve you without Injuring my self, shall be
with Esteem Yr Ready and willing Servt

[Chrisr Edelen Frederick Town to His Excellency Thomas Simm
Lee Esqr]

Immediately upon the Receipt of yours of the 3d Inst I applied
to the several Shoemakers and Hatters in this place in order to
procure Shoes & Hatts not one of these Tradesman had any of
those Articles by them but promised towards the latter end of the
month, to let me have the whole of what He cou'd get ready. I am
in hopes A considerable number of Each will be delivered, by that
time some of the Tradesmen seem very willing to take the new
money if you woud order some to be sent. I make no doubt but
what will receive it cheerfully
IncloStd is three Instruments of Wrightings Sign'd by Nicholas
Andrews, George Graves & Adam Graves I thought it proper they
shou'd be lodged with you, therefore have sent them; I intend
Marching them To morrow or on Tuesday morning as they cou'd not
get ready sooner you will please to direct some person there to receive
them.
