him the privilege to follow his lawful business within the limits of
our State, to expedite & forward to us an order for his imediate
discharge from prison. In doing which Your Excellency and Honours
will lay us under the greatest additional Obligations, and at the same
time thereby kindly relief the distressed heart of an anxious afflicted
and Sorrowful Father who begs the honour to be with the greatest
Respect and Esteem Your Excellency's and The Honble Council's
Most obedient & most humble Servt

[Erasmus Gantt, Prince Georges County, to Gov. Lee.]

I wrote you some time past by Dr Denwood respecting my appoint-
ment in the State Troop, requesting your Excelly would grant your
Interest, in procuring me an appointment in the Regiment of Horse
to be raised by the State; I should be sensible of an Impropriety in
the request, was there any prospect of your Excellys being able to
raise Captn Lingan a Troop Shortly, or admitting it was raised, of
his being able to take Command, (from a late Indisposition, which
has rendered the Advantages of the warm Springs to him, Indis-
pensable) during the space of two or three months. Should your
Excelly procure me a Commission in the Regt of Horse, at any
future day when you may find the raising Captn Lingan a Troop
expedient. I will act in either as your Excy may think most proper, at
present I am wholly unimployed

[Charles G. Griffith to Gov. Lee]

Sundry Gentlemen in this County sensible of the Great Utillaty
of a troop of horse upon any emergency or Sudden Depredations of
the enemy, have Enroled themselves under articles Subject to the
Act of Assembly Passed at June Session 1780
Haveing the honour of the Command of this troop Confered on
me; At their Request solicit your Excellency and honours to Fur-
nish them with Swords Pistols and holsters at the Publick Expense
and I will be answerable For their Return Unless taken by the
Enemy.
The Troop will be in Readiness if Furnished Agreeable to the
Above Request in three Weeks

[Tho. Price, Frederick Town, to the Governor and Council.]

I have been directed by the Commy General of the Western Shore,
to forward with all Expedition the Flour collected at the several Mills
in this County to Balto and George Towns, & in Consequence have
endeavoured to procure any engage the necessary Waggons, but find
it impossible as nothing more can be done without Money.
I am already considerably behind Hand for Flour Casks & Wag-
gon Hire, also for Provisions of the Meat Kind having for some
