August 3

of a Sudden attacked by the lock-jaw fits to the great grief of Us
all, old & young, the more so, as his own father & Uncle by his leaving
us so suddenly were deprived of the sweet pleasure to see & embrace
him only once. The Lord gave & took him, blessed be his holy name !
Monday afternoon he was christened by your own Name Samuel,
Wednesday at 12 o'clock A. M. buried decently in the same grave
with his late brother John William. May He enjoy Gods peace Sal-
vation & blessings eternally ! We there find and embrace him again !
I had indeed Sealed two of my letters with my usual Seal and shall
continue to do so. Fetching Lumber etc. for the Use of Town &
adjacent Country and in return to supply the lower parts of M. with
merchandize, is really Serving one's Country; this I meant by the
expression. N B. Another and last application to Gov. & Council
may bring about your deliverance & then we hope to see you soon.
After that you might stay perhaps somewhere down the bay, where

best manner possible. Only ask & comand them.

with, what fools and Idiots call toryism, after Suffering heroically
some weeks close confinement, seeing no justice done him by the
President & Council, thought it best to give them the Slip, & leaving
a Paper behind told them his reasons for doing so, Viz: not at all a
consciousness of guilt or crime comitted, nor fear, or spirit of re-
venge but a Sense of inocence, honest intention to pursue his Law-
ful course & business all over the Country, disgust to Law Suits and
disinclination as well as disability to Satisfy the thirst of blood suck-
ers etc. The most sensible honest & impartial of the people approved
of it. But dumb ears (would not) cannot hear! The Supreme Judge
of All sees and hears the Afflictions and Voice of the Oppressed.
Whereas Liberty of thought Conscience Speak! In popish Spain &
Portugal the best Christian & honest Man will be censured and con-
demned & tortured by the holy Inquisition (dont laugh) on the
