This Gent, has acted for Mr Woollford some Time. As he is a
Stranger to yr Excelly I believe it will be the Wish generally of the
Inhabitants that he should fill that Station being well esteemed, and
capable of such Business. A Gent: of sobriety and good Morals
and who I make not the least Doubt would execute the Trust reposed
in him with the greatest Honour & Credit. Your Excelly will see a
Specimen of what we have done in the Barge way. Hope you & yr
Honors will help us along with a few necessarys to compleat her as
they are not to be had here.

[Wm Ennalls, Dorset, to His Excellency Thomas Sim Lee]
Mr John Stevens who is the bearer of this informs me that
Mr James Woolford has resigned The office of Sherriff of this
County, and that He intends to Apply for the office, and as He has
some time past Acted in the office (having farmed it of Mr Wool-
ford) from which circumstance I, as a Justice of the County Court
must have had an opportunity of observing his conduct, He has
requested I wou'd write your Excellency on the Occasion. I there-
fore in Justice to Mr Stevens must say, He has always appeared to
me to be a Sober diligent man in his business, and in my opinion
He is the most fit for the office of sherriff of any man in this County,
who I think wou'd Accept of it. Mr Stevens is Collector of the Tax
in this County, which will make it more convenient to him, than to
another, to execute the Sherriffs office, and from his attention to his
business, there is no doubt with me, but He may continue collector
as long as the present Commissioners have the power of appointing.
