and Enrolled himself in the Militia — And has Complyed with all laws
that has been Established, and haveing no other subsistance for him-
self e and a Large helpless family of Orphans but the Property — Now
Seized on which if they are deprived of will perhaps be the means of
reducing the Orphans to a Public Charge as they are all but Your
Petitioner Incapable Getting a Liveing, and having no Other way
of Redress earnestly — Begs Your Honours would Suspend the Sale
of said Property untill the next Meeting of the General Assembly &
Your Petitioner shall as in duty Bound ever Pray.
We Whose names are hereunto Subscribed know the above Facts
to be true Given under Our hands this 25th day of July 1781.

Agreeable to your Excellency s Ltre of the 17th Cur. I have sent
by Mr Igs Luckett 190 hats taken from Mr Ridgate, a List of which
is enclosed, the prices he had set upon them (which I thought too
high) I heretofore enclosed and have left to your Excellency & the
Council to fix the prices. I have returned all the surplus horses 15 in
No the Rest are very fat as your Excy may see by the apparance of
those two in the Cart
Mr Leigh has not yet furnished the Waggon he promised but has
engaged to do it next week.
I am obliged to tear up my old Books for paper the Comy has the
above mentd List

[Tho M'Kean, President, Philadelphia, to Gov. Lee.]
I have the honor to inclose you an Act of Congress of the 23d
instant and another connected therewith of the 24th for the purpose
of procuring a loan of thirty thousand dollars for the distressed Citi-
zens of South Carolina and Georgia, who have been driven from
their country and possessions by the enemy and are lately arrived in
this City; and also for obtaining charitable donations for the further
relief of said sufferers.
Your sensations on reading what is already written have, I know,
anticipated every thing I would wish on the occasion.

According to an Order received from the Council I have fitted out
a Chest for the Troops which I think Sufficiently compleat unless
the surgeon should chuse to add thereto, as which I will procure if
possible
