would effectually prevent these Vessells from Blocking our River,
I flatter myself to receive an order on Gen. Buchanan for all such
fines, Immy Collected from the Lower Battn in favor of thet Com-
mittee for the Town Defence.
Yesterday a Genl Court Martial Sat for the Trial of Capt. John
Deaver. His Men have beg'd for other officers, his general Drunken
Character need not be expatiated on. I flatter myself the Determi-
nation will be approv'd & Beg that Commissions may be sent for
officers to that Company as follows. He has never had any subathrm
since I Commanded the Batt. I am Inform'd they are all dead. James
Toole Captain, Samuel Sadie 1 Lieut, William Dennis 2 Lieut.
An Ensign I Have not determin'd on. I again beg a Commission
as Second Lieut, for Jacob Brown in Capt Dickenson's Comy Stephen
Shelmerden having resigned, I beg a Commission for George Lux
in his Stead. Mr Poe will bring the Commission which I do assure
your Excelly are much wanted
The Immediate want of Commission has obligd me to send the
proceedings before I could furnish Capt Deaver with a Copy. I shall
be obligd for a Copy.

[Joseph Ford, Leonard Town, St. Marys County to Governor Lee]

Your Excellencies favor of the 21st Inst enclosing an order on
the Collector of the Tax for Two Hundred Pounds I Received.
I shewed it to him, and he informed me he had not Received one
Shilling of the Tax in money more than he had Remitted, nor did
he expect Shortly to Receive any, If Two Hundred Pounds could be
conveniently spared I should be glad and sent by the Bearer Mr
Robert Greenwell

[Joseph Wilkinson Calvert County to His Excellency Thomas Sim
Lee Esqr] (favor Capt Cleland)

I receiv'd yours of the 24th Inst directing me to apprehend a cer-
tain Joshua Dorsey late of Baltimore Town, which I have accord-
ingly done, and make no doubt of his being safely deliver'd to you
by the Bearer Capt Thomas Cleland.

[J. Taylor, to Colo Richard Barnes, with Seven Prisoners under
Guard of Serjeant Daffin & others]

The Capts. Folgier and Cole belonging to Baltemore who are
just arrived from the West India's, on their Passage up the Bay
met with a New York Privateer Schooner & a Sloop her Prize,
a little below Ceder Point, which they Captured with very little oppo-
sition, Seven of the Prisoners were put on board the above men-
tioned Sloop, having no guard over them, they made their escape
about ten oClock last night. Were this day taken up by Mr Belwood,
