Brigadier Gen' Buchanan
[Jas. Calhoun, Baltimore, to the Governor and Council.]
Since the Militia hath been called out the demand for Provisions
at this Post is from 5 to 700 Rations p day which is more of the
Meat kind than I can possibly procure at this place without giving
a very extravagant price for it, and many of the Men who are on duty
depended on their dayly labour for their subsistance therefore if they
cannot be supply'd with Rations it will be impossible to keep them
together which induces me to trouble your Honble Board on this
Subject & must request you will please give me directions in what
manner to obtain supplies of the Meat kind.
