Since the Militia hath been called out the demand for Provisions
at this Post is from 5 to 700 Rations p day which is more of the
Meat kind than I can possibly procure at this place without giving
a very extravagant price for it, and many of the Men who are on duty
depended on their dayly labour for their subsistance therefore if they
cannot be supply'd with Rations it will be impossible to keep them
together which induces me to trouble your Honble Board on this
Subject & must request you will please give me directions in what
manner to obtain supplies of the Meat kind.

May it please your Excellency. I Hope a Recent Transaction may
Be Lookd upon as an Appoligy for my Laying before your Excel-
lency the following Narrative.
I was some years agoe appointed by the men who formd A Com-
pany of Militia under William Galbraith Capt in the 39th Battalion
of Maryland Militia as their Ensign & continued as such untill by
Deaths & Resignations I was appointed and Commissid as Capt of
the Said Company — and Remaind in that Station Hitherto, and have
not had since About the Middle of Last Summer one Subbaltern to
Assist me in Conducting them notwithstanding which, I have with
much Fatiegue Kept the men Together which is a full and Good
Company and have on all Occasions Manifested my Zeal in Support
of the Independence of America in Training the men, and Turning
out on Every Occasion, Mounting Guard &ca I was Last thursday
ordered to Relieve the main Guard in Baltimore Town consisting of
one officer, one Serjt one Corpl and 20 privates which I did accord-
ingly on fryday and on the same day was committed to my Charge a
prisoner Chargd with a Crime of a Capital nature — and Continued
myself on Guard three Days & nights Successively having no Sub-
baltern to Releive me on that Tour of duty
