[Leigh Masters, Baltimore To His Excelly The Governor & The
Honble Council.]
I hope Your Excellence & yl Honble Council will excuse me giving
this trouble to beg you will allow me to go back to New Providence.
I have this day been with Genl Guist imagining he had power to
allow me to sail but he said he thought it was out of yl Line of his
province So recommended me to write to Your Honours. I there-
fore beg you will be so good to take my case into Consideration
which I hope you will think me impertinent in saying is hard & pecu-
liarly so as I am under the necessity of returning before next March
to save my Estate which inclines me to hope you will allow me to sail
without any further delay & Your Honours will greatly oblige.

[Richard Peters, War Office, to Gov. Lee.]
Since the Resolution of Congress relative to the removal of the
Convention Troops they have been pleased to refer the matter to this
Board to Take Orders and we have given the enclosed Instructions
to Col. Wood who has the Superintendance of those Troops and he is
gone forward to put these orders in Execution which are expressive
of the sense of Congress on the Subject. The Instructions will ex-
plain themselves and the present Circumstances of Affairs make the
measures therein directed absolutely necessary. We therefore hope
for the Concurrence and Assistance of your Excellency and the
Honorable Council in carrying them into effect. (See page 145)
