Gov. Lee.]
A small vessel waits upon you with this letter to receive any dis-
patches or intelligence the Governor or Council may be received for
the Marquiss. The boat has orders to wait at the mouth of the har-
bour for the Marquiss who is to leave this in about an hour, and
precedes the fleet upon some particular business down the bay. You
will be pleased to use expedition in dispatching the boat to its sta-
tion. The fleet I expect will be before Annapolis sometime to-
morrow

[James McHenry, V[oluntere] aide de camp, On board the Nesbit,
to His Excellency Governor Lee.]
It being necessary to send on shore a number of sick soldiers of
this detachment, its commanding officer Major General the Marquiss
de la Fayette, has directed me to request, that if there be any provi-
sion at Annapolis for such, that your Excellency would issue your
orders for their reception.
[Wm. Whitely, Caroline County, to The Governor and Council.]
Agreeable to an Act to imbody a number of select Militia and for
immediately putting this State in a proper posture of Defence — the
Battalions in our County have been Called together and we could not
prevail on as many others to turn out as would form one Compy and
I am apt to think that there is not the least probability of raising a
Company in our County.

[George Murdock, Frederick Town, to Governor Lee]
Since writing your Excellency by Mr Thos Beatty — I have recd
several supplys of Meat, sufficient to enable the Issuing Commis-
sary to deliver the Convention Troops Five or Six days full Rations
exclusive of the Guard. I flatter myself If I can be well supply'd
with money so as to enable me to send some distance off, Provi-
sion may be collected nearly sufficient for this Post. I am much in
want of Cash & hope to receive a supply on Mr Beatty's return.
