On reading the said Report, the same is referred for the Consid-
eration of next Assembly.
Col. Hooper delivers to Mr. Speaker the following Report; viz.
By the Committee of Grievances and
Courts of Justice, June 7, 1751.
In Pursuance of an Order of your Honourable House, your Com-
mittee have proceeded to make the necessary Enquiries agreeable to
that Order; and do find, that the Attorneys do not annex Executions
to their Lists of Fees put into the Sheriffs Hands to collect, as they
are under Execution by Law: That the Clerks of the Provincial, and
Anne Arundel County Courts, tax their Costs on all Judgments and
Actions brought agreeable to Law; making the proper Deductions
since the Inspecting Law took Place: Neither do we find their En-
tries or Oaths are lengthened, or more made than formerly, or any
other Charge of Fees contrary to Law. But we are informed, that
the Clerk of Dorchester County charges ten Pounds of Tobacco for
making a Search, altho' the Thing searched for be not found; which
we conceive is contrary to the apparent Intent of the Law.
All which is humbly submitted to the Consideration of the Honour-
able House. Signed per Order, Wm. Wilkins, Clerk.
Which was read, and ordered to lie on the Table.
On motion of a Member that an Address be prepared to his Ex-
cellency, for his Protection of our Religious and Civil Rights; Or-
dered, That the Committee of Laws do prepare and bring in the
same.
Col. Hooper delivers to Mr. Speaker the following Ingrossed
Address :
