with all possible dispatch to this place, in consequence thereof I have
returned him an Answer that if your Hon^l Board concur in my
Appointm^t I would continue to execute the business of the de-
partm^t and till your pleasure was known on that, I would proceed to
forward any business in my Power, in consequence of which I have
waited on Col^o Hollingsworth at this place who says he will give me
any Assistance in his Power, I intend doing myself the honor of
waiting on you as soon as Possible, in the mean time permit me to
forw^d my Application to you for your Approbation of my Appoint-
ment, and at the same time to observe that your Appointment to
Col^o Hollingsworth, To receive examine and store provisions col-
lected by County Agents, Appears to both him and me to interfere
with the new Order of regulation by Congress, he is disposed to con-
tinue in that part of the business till your pleasure is known on that
Subject, and when known act Agreeable, as Col^o Hollingsworth
writes by this conveyance on this matter. I need not observe further
on this Head, if I am happy enough to meet the Approbation of your
Hon^l Board on the Appointment if any immediate Commands or
Instructions is necessary, I will thank you for them and Chearfully
enter into the execution of them.

Sir Your Excellency will receive herewith inclosed an Act of
Congress of the 26. Ulto. earnestly recommending to the several
States to take the most speedy & effectual Means in their Power
for drawing in their respective Quotas of the Continental Bills of
Credit, to be destroyed either by Tax or exchanging for them new
Bills, emitted pursuant to the resolution of the 18 of March last,
at a rate not less than forty for one, that the whole of the new Bills
may be issued.
Also recommending to the several States, to raise by Taxes pay-
able in the new Bills above mentioned or Specie, their respective
Quotas of three Million of Dollars agreeable to the Apportionment
of the 7 of October 1779, and pay the same into the Treasury of the
United States as soon as possible, the Payment to be fully com-
pleted by the last Day of December next, each State to be allowed
Interest from the Time it is paid; to be hereafter adjusted accord-
ing to a resolution of the 6 of October 1779.
You will also observe by this Act Provision is made for Payment
of the public Debts due in any of the States in the Departments of
the late Quartermaster Greene & Commissary Wadsworth, as also
the present Commissary General of Purchases.
And in order to prevent the Possibility of a Depreciation in the
new Bills it is earnestly recommended to the several States, not to
issue Bills of Credit for a Currency on any Account whatever, in
