[Council to George Murdock, Esqr.]

Mr Thomas Beatty informs us he has in his Possession as one of
the Commissioners appointed under the Act for the immediate Supply
&ca about seventy Barrells of Flour and five hundred Bushels of
Rye which we directed him to deliver to you to be issued out to the
Convention Troops at Frederick Town. It is out of our Power to
Supply you with Money at this Time.

Tuesday 6th March 1781.

Ordered that the western shore Treasurer pay to Thomas Beatty
five pounds twelve shillings and six pence of the new Emission
pr Acct passed by the D. Aud.
That the said Treasurer pay to Doctr James Murray two hundred
pounds of the same Emission on Account.
An Agreement made this fifth day of March one thousand seven
hundred and Eighty one Between the Governor and Council in Behalf
of the State of Maryland and Stephen Steward and Company.
That the said Stephen Steward and Company have this Day
chartered to the Governor and Council in behalf of the State of
Maryland the Sloop Porpoise Captain William Weems, to carry a
load of flour from the Port of Baltimore to the City of Havana for
the Freight of one half of the Cargo of Flour laden on board the
said Sloop Porpoise and the said Stephen Steward and Company agree
to take on board the said Sloop the load of Flour free of all Charges
(any duty hereafter to be imposed on the export of Flour excepted)
and pay all port Charges at the Port of Delivery and to take on board
such Goods or Merchandize from the wharves or Landing places at
the City of Havana aforesaid as shall be ordered by the Governor
and Council to fill one half of the said Sloop which Goods are to be
delivered in the State of Maryland free of Freight or other Charges
(the Duty on Imports excepted) and the Governor and Council agree
to give the said Stephen Steward and Company five per Cent Com-
mission on the Cost of the said Sloop for purchasing the same, the
amount of which Cargo shall be paid by the Governor and Council
in behalf of the State of Maryland as soon as may be convenient and
the said Stephen Steward & Co agree and engage to have the said
Sloop well found manned and armed for such Voyage and in case
the said Sloop during the said Voyage shall take any Prize the State
shall be entitled to one third of any Prize money received by the
Owners of the said Sloop.
