of these Tory Boats is a Barge of thirty two Oars and thirty three

[Chas. Blake Corsica to Gov. Lee]

Sir I receiv'd yr Excellencys Favour of the 19th enclosing the
Commissarys Commission for Queen Ann's, I have had since it has
been known quantitys of Wheat and some bacon offerd me for Cash,
the Commission without Cash is like a body without a Soul in-
capable of motion; much wheat may now be had for Cash but credit
will do but little, the Peoples wants cannot be supplied by Certifi-
cates. I shall therefore be glad of a supply of cash if to be had, if
not of an order on the Treasury for the first that comes in; from
the applications I am of opinion much may now be done here, if
I am well supply'd with Cash; yr Excellency may rest ashur'd that
all my endeavours will prove unsuccesfull unless Supported in that
necessary article. The People in general seem inclined to part with
their wheat for the use of the army but must have the Cash ashur-
ances will go but a little way. I yesterday bought 200 bus: by ad-
vancing 1550 pounds but I am now out. I shall be glad to have yr
Excellencys instructions with regard to the receipt of Beef on the
hoofe, if the fifth quarter is to be sunk as heretofore and only the
net weight of the four quarters specified in the receipts, and in case
of disagreement between the Person offering beef and the Commis-
sary about the weight how is it to be decided no Law sent me points
out the mode. As to the Tobacco you direct me to offer they do not
chuse to be concern'd with it, it will not do here. Our crops tho'
light are vastly superior to the crops of the Lower countys and
from information are equal to those of Kent and Cecil; as that is
the case and wheat is at 60 Dol. I hope for supplies equal to the call
as soon as they can be procur'd. everything in my power shall be
done.
As we have no Merchant Mills in the lower part of this County
I suppose the wheat must be sent to Colo Hollingsworth when
procur'd
