Liber No 73

P. 20

[Council to Job Garrettson, Esqr.]

Enclosed is a Commission appointing you Sheriff of Baltimore
County, you are immediately to qualify yourself as Sheriff and
you are commanded without Delay to make or cause to be made due
Proclamation of the enclosed Act to prevent the Exportation of
Wheat Flour Corn &ca at the Court House, Coffee House and other
most public Places in Baltimore Town.

Ibid,
p. 21

[Council to William Smith Daniel Bowley Samuel and Robert
Purviance Esqr and other Merchants of Baltimore]

In Virtue of the Act to prohibit the Exportation of Corn &ca we
have issued our Mandate to prevent all the Vessels in Patapsco, the
Port of Baltimore or any other the Branches of the said River
except the Porpus and Nautilles employed to cruise in the State
Service, from departing or removing therefrom for ten Days, and
must solicit you to have an armed Vessel stationed in such Manner
in the said River as effectually to prevent an Infringement of our
Order. It gives us much Concern to be under the Necessity of so
frequently troubling the Gentlemen of Baltimore to aid us in facili-
tating the Execution of almost every Measure that conduces to pro-
mote the Public Welfare but we hope our Circumstances will be
deemed a sufficient Apology. We have appointed Mr Garretson
a Sheriff of Baltimore and have sent a Copy of the above Act and
directed him to make Proclamation of it

Ibid.

[Council Circular to the Commisaries of Kent, Queen Anne's,
Caroline, Dorset, and Somerset Counties.]

You will take Charge of what Public Salt is in your County, and
under the Direction of Mr Wederstrand at Present, for which you
will pass your Receipt, and be answerable to this Board, for what
quantity you may receive
