[Henry Hollingsworth and Gabriel Peterson Vanhorn To his
Excellency Thomas Sim Lee and the Honourable Council.]

The Memorial of Henry Hollingsworth and Gabriel Peterson
Vanhorn humbly sheweth.
That your Memorialists appointed by your Excellency And
Honours in the month of June 1780 to Employ Express riders With
good & sufficient horses for the speedy Conveyance of Dispatches
from Harford Town to Philadelphia.
Strict Attention has been paid to the Requisition Horses were
Immediately Provided, and Riders furnished with Every necessary
so that this part of the Line has been able fully to Comply with every
Duty Required
Your Memorialists therefore Beg leave to observe that the Every
Exertion has been made on their Part to Compleat with Effect the
Above Line (of Express) there Appears not Least Provision Made
for the Support of that necessary Department. They Entreat Your
Excellency & Honours Indulgence on this Subject, as A Variety of
Causes, Renders the Business Expensive at Present, & The Season
so far advanced, that they Expect an Aditional Expence Exacted
from them by the Proprietors of the Different Ferries, this With
the Probable Misfortunes attending those places in winter Season
Render it necessary in the Opinion of Your Memorialists that a
Pirmanent & fixed Price should be spedily Ascertained, Enabling
your Memorialists Properly to State their Amounts & Prepare them
for Settlement. No Doubts Arise but there will be allowed A Gen-
erous & satisfactory Compensation for the Service. But they beg
for an Imediate Decision thereof.

[Adamson Tannehill, Captain Command'g Md. Corps, Fort Pitt,
to Gen'l Smallwood.]

Sir From the late Resolve of Congress for new modeling the
Army I find that all the seperate light Corps (except those particu-
larly mentioned) are to be reduc'd the first day of January next;
The Officers to retire on half Pay, and the non Commissd Officers
and Soldiers to be annexed to the Regiments of the States they re-
spectively belong.
I have the Honor of Commanding the Corps formerly Com-
manded by Lt Colo Moses Rawlings, which is Stationed at this place,
and as it has been so unfortunate and unjustly dealt by, as not to be
annexed to the Line of the State of Maryland, It is now look'd upon
as a seperate Light Corps belonging to that State and of Conse-
quence reduced the 1st day of January. I have but one Officer with
