The General has further instructed me to appoint places of ren-
dezvous for the Troops to be raised and to acquaint your Excel-
lency therewith, that the Recruits may have directions where to
Assemble An Officer at each place of rendezvous will be ordered
to Inspect them, as they Arrive, and I am particularly charg'd to
give them positive directions not to receive any recruits in the service
whether by Draught or voluntary inlistment, unless they are Five
Feet Four Inches high, of a good sound constitution, perfect in their
limbs and under Fifty Years of Age.
I have the Honor to enclose you an estimate of men wanting to
compleat our quota as also of Clothing, Camp Equipage, Arms, Ac-
coutrements &ca and as the stores under the direction of the Board
of War are incompetent to furnish these Articles I beg leave to hint,
the necessity of procuring them with all possible dispatch that the
March of the Troops (when raised) may not be impeded. I have
the Honor to be with perfect Respect & Esteem

[George Dashiell, Somerset County to His Excellency
Thomas Sim Lee Esqr]

Sir I embrace this opportunity by Mr Jackson to inform your
Excellency that necessity obliges me to continue a part of the militia
on Duty the Enemies cruisers are stil hovering about the tangier
Island I recd Inteligence (which I could rely on) the 6th that the col
was Join'd on the 2nd Instant by four sloops & schooners and that A
Brigg lay at the mouth of the sound. Their boats frequently come
near the mouth of our rivers but have not attempted to come up the
rivers on which the smallest detachments of Militia have been Sta-
tioned I wrote your Excellency sometime pass'd requesting a supply
of lead cartridge boxes and camp kettles. Those articles we are
much in want of I had reason to expect such of them as you could
conveniently spare by the state boats, but as I apprehend that they
are by the junction of the Enemies cruisers now rendered unequal
to them I presume they will not be sent down. And request the
favour of Your Excellency to inform me in what manner I can be
supplied. I have not more lead than is barely sufficient to supply the
few men now on Duty and should it be necessary to collect a larger
force cannot furnish them with it, I am unacquainted with the
quantity in Worcester County, which lies remote and not exposed
to the ravages of the Enemy, as the Lieutenant of that County is
now in Annapolis if you will please to inform yourself And in Case
I can be furnished with a small Quantity g[ive m]e an order I
can readily procure it, or if it can be more conveniently spar'd from
any other part of the State I will immediately send for it
