duct will meet with your Excellencies Approbation. The bearer
Mr Bennet brings receipts for 753 bushels of Corn transported to
the head of Elk, for the use of the State. 60 bushels of which was

carried on Acct of Mr Jackson, for which I have rect a Certificate

for the freight at 305 p Bushel. Necessity obliged me to retain 9
bushels of the Corn purchased on Acct of the State at £7.10 p bushel,
which sum deducted out of the freight on 693 bushels leaves a bal-
ance of £972 for which sum, I request the favour of your Excellency
& Honours to give me an order on the Collector of the Tax. I have
also sent the Certificate of the Valuation of my schooner, Taken by
the Enemy in the Service of The State, And request the favour of
you to Give me an order on the Treasurer of the Eastern shore for
the Amount. I am much in want of Cartridge boxes, lead, and a
few Camp kettles, If they can be furnished I will send to Kent
Island by land for them.

[Luther Martin, pro Libel. Thomas Sellers To the Honourable
Benjamin Nicholson Judge of the Court of Admiralty of the
State of Maryland]

The Libel of Thomas Sollers Naval Officer of the Port of Balti-
more who Prosecutes as well for himself as the State of Maryland
Humbly sheweth that on the day of October in the year of
our Lord one Thousand Seven Hundred and Eighty at the Port
of Baltimore, within the Jurisdiction of this Honourable Court
Sixteen Barrels of Bread, and Fifteen Barrels of Flour were Laden
on Board of the Sloop Experiment Leigh Master Owner in order to
be Exported by Water out of the State of Maryland to wit unto the
Island of New Providence Contrary to the form of the Act in that
Case made and Provided and that he the said Thomas did then and
there the said Sloop Together with her Furniture, Tackle Apparel
and Cargo, seise and take wherefore he Prays that the same may be
Condemned as Lawful Prize to the use of the said Thomas and
the State, and that your Honour will make such order and Decree
thereon as to Your Honour shall seem meet &c.
And the said Thomas Sollers on behalf of himself and the State
by his Libel further shews to your Honour that on the clay and year
aforesaid, at the Port of Baltimore within the Jurisdiction of this
Court, he the said Thomas Sollers did Take and Seize as lawfull
Prize the Sloop Experiment Together with her Furniture, Takle,
Apparel and Cargo Consisting of Fifteen Barrels of Flour, sixteen

Barrels of Bread, Four Barrels of Apples one Clock &c; which said

Sloop Furnifure, Takle, Apparel and Cargo then was the Property
of Leigh Masters, and Sundry other persons Subjects of the King
of Great Brittain, and Enemies of this State, and of the United
States of America. Wherefore the said Thomas Sollers, Prays that
the said Sloop with her Furniture, Apparel, Takle and Cargo, may
