absolute Estate in Fee-Simple, of, in, and unto the two Acres of
Land aforesaid, to the Use aforesaid for ever, and shall for ever
after bar such Proprietor or Proprietors, his Heirs or Assigns, from
any Claim thereto.

And be it further Enacted, That the Sheriff shall have the same
Fees for summoning and impannelling the Jury aforesaid, as he is
entitled to receive for the like Service in the County Court, and no
more; and that the same shall be chargeable to, and paid by the
Parish aforesaid.

Chapter
XIX

An Act for raising Three Pence Sterling per Hogshead on all To-
bacco to be exported, for purchasing Arms and Ammunition, and
for an immediate Supply of Arms for the Defence of this Province.

Whereas in these Times of Danger, it is highly prudent to provide

for the common Safety and Defence of the Province, by making the
best Provision we are able for a suitable Supply of Arms and Am-
munition; and it being now more necessary, as the General Assem-
bly in June 1746, enacted, that Part of the Arms then in the
Magazine, should be delivered to His Majesty's Forces raised within
this Province (such Arms not being otherwise to be procured or
purchased within the same) We His Majesty's most dutiful and
loyal Subjects, the Delegates of the Freemen of Maryland, in Assem-
bly convened, therefore humbly pray that it may be Enacted ;

And be it Enacted, by the Right Honourable the Lord Proprie-
tary, by and with the Advice and Consent of his Lordship's Gover-
nor, and the Upper and Lower Houses of Assembly, and the Au-
thority of the same, That there shall be levied, collected, and raised
a Duty or Impost of Three Pence Sterling Money, on every Hogs-
head of Tobacco which now is, and hereafter shall be laden on board
any Ship or Vessel to be exported out of this Province, and not
cleared at some Naval Office, before the End of this present Session
of Assembly, to be collected and received by the respective Naval
Officers in the same Manner as other Duties on all Tobacco now due
and payable, are collected and raised; which said Duty shall be dis-
posed of for the purchasing Arms and Ammunition for the main-
taining a Magazine for the better Defence of this Province, and for
the due Preservation thereof, and paid to the Treasurer or Treas-

urers of this Province for the Time being, who shall be allowed Two
Pounds Ten Shillings per Centum for the Receipt and Payment
thereof, and to be disposed of to the Uses aforesaid, as the Governor
and Council for the Time being shall direct; for the Collection
whereof, the Naval-Officers shall be allowed Eight Pounds per
Centum, and no more.
