Session Laws

therefore humbly pray, that an Act may pass, impowering the Jus-
tices of Calvert County to levy on the taxable Inhabitants of the said
Parish, a Sum not exceeding eighty thousand Pounds of Tobacco,
by equal and even assessment, in order to build a new Chapel of
Ease, at or near the Place where the old Chapel stands; and which
new Chapel, when built, may be deemed a Chapel of the said Par-
ish, to be supported (and when Need requires to be repaired) at
the Charge of the Parish.
Be it therefore Enacted by the Right Honourable the Lord Pro-
prietary, by and with the Advice and Consent of his Lordship's Gov-
ernor, and the Upper and Lower Houses of Assembly, and the
Authority of the same, That the Vestry-Men and Church-Wardens

of Christ's Church Parish, in Calvert County, or the major Part of
them, be and are hereby authorized and impowered to agree with
such Persons as they shall think proper to employ, to build a Chapel
of Ease, at or near the Place where the Chapel of Ease called Middle-
ham Chapel, in said Parish, stands; which said Chapel so to be built
shall be constituted and deemed a Chapel of Ease of the said Parish,
and for ever hereafter be supported and repaired at the Charge of
the said Parish.
And be it further Enacted, That the Justices of Calvert County
shall and may, and they are hereby authorized and directed, on the

Application of the Vestry-Men and Church- Wardens of the said
Parish, to assess and levy, by three Assessments, on the taxable
Inhabitants of the aforesaid Parish, the aforesaid Sum of eighty
thousand Pounds of Tobacco, to be paid by the Parishioners by the
first Day of June Yearly; which said Assessment, so to be levied,
shall be collected by the Sheriff of Calvert County for the Time
being, who is hereby authorized and required to collect the same, and
shall have for such Collection after the Rate of five per Cent. And
the said Sum of eighty thousand Pounds of Tobacco, when so col-
lected, shall be paid to the Vestry-Men and Church-Wardens afore-
said, who are hereby authorized and required to apply the same to
the Uses aforesaid.

Chapter IX

An Act impowering the Justices of Talbot and St. Mary's County
Courts, to allow, at the laying their next County Levy, unto Jonas
Green, of the City of Annapolis, Printer, the Sums therein men-
tioned.

Preamble

Whereas, by some Delay or Accident, the Laws made in the Year
seventeen hundred forty and two, were not delivered in time to the
Justices of Talbot County, nor those made in the Year seventeen
hundred forty and four to the Justices of St. Mary's County; altho'
they were respectively received in a few Days after the limited Time,
which, by Act of Assembly, Jonas Green, Printer, was directed to
