The Bill entituled, An Act continuing an Act of Assembly of this
Province entituled An Act to prevent the ill Practices of Sheriffs in
the Collecting and Payment of the Public and County Levies; were
read the second Time, passed, and sent to the Upper House by Mr

Stoddert and Mr Bond. Samuel Chamberlaine Esq, from the Upper
House delivers Mr Speaker a Petition of the Rector, Vestrymen,
Church Wardens, and Inhabitants of Christ Church Parish in Cal-
vert County praying that the Inhabitants of the said Parish may be
assessed for the A Chapel of Ease therein; Indorsed (See page
291.)
Which being read, Ordered, that the Committee of Laws prepare
and bring in A Bill for that Purpose
And a Representation of the lustices Grand lury, and other In-
habitants of Ann Arundel County, setting forth the great advan-
tages that might be obtained by erecting a work House in the said
County, and praying the Legislature to make such Provision therein
as may be for the Public Good, Indorsed By the Upper House of
Assembly 25 June 1746; Read and referred to the Consideration
of the Lower House of Assembly
Which was read, and referred to the Consideration of the next
Session of Assembly. On motion of a Member, Leave is given to
bring in A Bill to continue the Act entituled, An Act for the speedy
Recovery of small Debts out of Court before a single Justice of the
Peace. And ordered, that the Committee of Laws prepare and bring
in the same
It being represented to this House, that immediately after the
Prorogation of the late Convention, His Excellency Thomas Bladen
Esq Governor, in a Very violent, unseemly, and insulting manner,
Attacked Mr Walter Smith a Member of this House returned for
Calvert County, by accusing the said Smith with the Asserting Falsi-
ties to the said House That he and his Family owed their all to the
Lord Baltimore; and that he the said Smith took all Opportunities
to oppose any proposition made in the House tending to his Lord-
ships Interest and Affairs, and for which his Excellency told him
he was a sorry Fellow, and used sundry other warm Expressions
to the said purpose: And the said Mr Walter Smith, being called
upon to declare the whole affair to this House Acquainted them fully
to the Purpose aforesaid: and further saith, that the speaking the
