236 Assembly Proceedings, March 12-March 29, 1745/6.

U.H.J.
Liber No. 34

Gentlemen of the Upper and Lower Houses of Assembly
It was with the greatest Pleasure I observed in your Addresses
to me such a Spirit of Duty and Loyalty to his Majesty as I am per-
swaded can only flow from the hearts of faithful Subjects sensible
of the happiness they enjoy under the Administration of a gracious
and good Prince. The wicked and unnatural Rebellion carried on
against Our Sovereigns Sacred Life & Crown demands from us
every Proof We can give of Our Abhorrence of that detestable
Enterprize, And I make no doubt you will all willingly concur in a
Proposal I shall make You of joyning in an Association Whereby
We may manifest Our Principles and declare Our Affections to the
Person of Our Sovereign and his Royal Family
This is a Step already taken by most of his Majestys Subjects,
who from their Situation have had the Advantage over us, of being
more early in giving this Testimony of their Loyalty, We I hope
shall do it with no less Chearfulness and sincerity, not induced
thereto by Example only but from a grateful Sense of those Bless-
ings We enjoy under his Majestys Auspicious Government and a
Detestation of a Popish and Arbitrary Tyranny
Adjourned till three of the Clock in the Afternoon

Eodem Die post Meridiem
This House met again according to Adjournment

Present as in the Morning
Benjamin Tasker Esqr attended by the Members of this House
presents to his Excellency the Address of this House in the follow-
ing Words
To his Excellency Thomas Bladen Esqr Governor and Commander
in Chief in and over the Province of Maryland
The humble Address of the Upper House of Assembly
May it please Your Excellency
We return Your Excellency Our most hearty Thanks for Your
Speech, Wherein You have been pleased to recommend to us, to
enter into an Association, which We assure you We will very readily
do and upon every Occasion give all the Proofs in our Power to
testify Our Loyalty to his most Sacred Majesty King George the
second and Our Detestation of the Wicked and unnatural Rebel-
lion excited by the Artifices of France and Spain in support of the
desperate Cause of an Abjured Popish Pretender against his
Majestys Person Crown and auspicious Government under which
We and all the rest of his Majestys are secured in the Enjoyment of
everything worth Possessing or that can be dear to Freemen
Benja Tasker Prest
Adjourned till to Morrow Morning ten of the Clock
