on the Conduct of this House; Whereas for their own and safety
of their Constituents, they gave the last Sessions of Assembly, the
sum of 300l Sterling for a present to the Six Nations of Indians,
which by the Treasurers Accounts appears to have been Issued for
that purpose. And also sent a Bill this Session, laying a Duty of 4l
per Hogshead on Tobacco, for the purchase of Arms and Ammuni-
tion for the Defence of this Province, which Bill was Refused by the
Upper House
Mr Smith delivers Mr Speaker the following Report, Viz.
By the Committee appointed to inspect the Arms, Ammunition
and Accounts &c. June 1, 1744
Your Committee having Examined and inspected the several
Treasurers Accounts, of the 3d Sterling per Hogshead, do find the
same as follows, Viz.
Dr The publick Stock on the Western Shore of Maryland, on the
Duty of 3d Sterling per Hogshead on Tobacco exported, ending
1740, for purchasing of Arms.
