Ordered, That the Committee of Laws prepare and bring in such
Bill.
Doctor Carroll, from the Committee of Laws, delivers Mr Speaker
a Bill entituled, an Act to prevent cutting up Tobacco Plants, de-
stroying of Tobacco and Tobacco Houses, and for ascertaining the
punishment; which was Read the ffirst time, and ordered to lie on
the Table.
On Reading the Bill entituled, An Act for raising flour pence
sterling per Hogshead, &c. the Question was put, Whether the per-
son appointed to Receive the money raised by the ffour pence per
Hogshead from the Naval Officers, shall be the Honourable Cot.
Edward Sprigg, or the Treasurers of the Province? Resolved,
That Col. Edward Sprigg be the person appointed.

and passed, and sent to the Upper House by Col. Colvill, and Thir-
teen more.
The House Adjourned until Monday Morning, at 9 of the Clock

Monday Morning May 7. 1744

The House met according to Adjournment &c.
The Members were Called, and all Appeared as on Saturday except
Messieures John and Richard Gresham
