The Examinaon of John Williams apprehended uppon suspition
of ffelony taken before Philip Caluert Esq^r & Richard Willan gentⁿ
Two of his L^ps Justices of the Peace for the County of S^t Maries
this first day of Nouemb^r 1658 This Exam^d confesseth that hee
knew his Wife Mary Williams had taken some things of M^r Symon
Ouerzees, but th^t hee neuer knew what p^rticular things they were,
And th^t hee bid her haue a care th^t shee medled not w^th any thing
of the s^d Ouerzees, for hee would come to know of it. That An-
drew Warners Wife did bring him some things in a Pillow-beere to
the Church as from his owne Wife Mary Williams, from whence
she desyred him the s^d Williams to carry them to her husbands
howse att S^t Hieroms; w^ch hee did, & th^t he did thinke that there
were some goods in th^t pillow beere, th^t were none of his owne, &
did belong to M^r Ouerzee, but the p^rticulars he knew not. That for
those things w^ch were deliuered to M^r Ouerzee (by his Wife) att

M^r Ouerzees owne howse hee neuer knew th^t his wife had any such
in her possesⁿ. That the reason why hee did not discouer his Wifes
theft to M^r Ouerzee was because hee thought M^r Ouerzee would
not haue missed them. That Two little Children the One called
William Smith, the other Sara Hayes did find a Bagge or Blew-
streaked Pillow beere in a hollow Tree, w^ch he this Exam^d had hid
there, & after carryed to Andrew Warners uppon the Childrens
discouery of the bagge, That this bagge was deliuered to him by his
Wife, & th^t hee did beleiue th^t his Wife had stolne them from M^r
Ouerzee, but th^t w^ch way shee had gotten them from M^r Ouerzee hee
neuer did know. That his Wife told him th^t Mary Clocker had
carryed some things home of M^r Ouerzees w^ch hee did beleiue were
stolne allso. And th^t hee & his Wife went to Mary Clockers after-
ward, & th^t then Mary Clocker opened a Bundle of Linnen w^ch they
then shared betweene them, but th^t they remoued nothing fron.
Mary Clockers howse att th^t time. That goeing againe to Mary
Clockers shee complayned of want of salt, & th^t shee promised this
Exam^d two or three cheeses to gett her a little salt. Whereuppon this
Exam^d promised to lett her haue some of M^rs Ouerzees Salt: & the s^d
Clocker sayd shee would send her husband for it, because shee durst
not trust her sonne Thomas Courtney. Yett notw^thstanding she did
send her sonne Thomas Courtney, to whom Mary this Exam^es Wife
did deliuer about halfe a Bushell of Salt, lapd in a peice of a Greene
Blankett, w^ch salt was M^rs Ouerzees, That shee deliuered this salt to
Courtney iust about shutting in of Day light; & hee this Exam^d
helped the s^d Courtney to tye it up. That the Dore hath noe Latch,
but only a Lock, & th^t unlesse it bee locked it will fly open
