But this Depon^t understood not what hee meant by the words, fforce,
or Compell, M^r ffitzherbert told this Depon^t further th^t if M^r Gerard
brought not his children freely to his Church, nor educated them in
the principalls of the Romish Religion, hee would take such a course,
th^t hee would undertake their Educaon in M^r Gerards owne howse,
whither M^r Gerard would giue way thereunto, or noe, This Depon^t
aduised M^r ffitzherbert to forbeare to proceed according to such
resoluon, Whereuppon after long arguing about this busines M^r
ffitzherbert told the s^d Depon^t, th^t if hee would tell him his Opinion,
what hee were best to doe, in relaon to M^r Gerard his Wife & children
& hee the s^d M^r ffitzherbert promised him to follow his Counsell, this
Depon^t aduised him not to disturbe M^rs Gerard nor her Children in
relaon to their Religion, or words to th^t Effect, as the s^d Depon^t hath
declared, & further sayth not.

Henry Keine sworne in open Court, maketh oath, That hee went
to M^rs Brook's howse uppon a Summons to a Muster, the 24^th of
July last, Where M^r ffitzherbert made a Sermon, & M^r ffitzherbert
comming forth demanded of them how they liked his doctrine.
And further the s^d M^r ffitzherbert sayd, if any would giue him leaue
to bee in their howse, hee would now & then come & giue them a
Sermon, And if hee coulcl gett leaue of the Gou^r, hee would preach
att the Court howse, That night, or the next day Richard Games
turning Catholike came home, & brought Two Books w^th him, w^ch
he sayd M^r ffitzherbert gaue him, & further sayth not.
John Grammer maketh oath, th^t hee was present att the Muster
att M^rs Brook's howse att the same time, And there hee heard a
Declaraon or Sermon, by M^r ffitzherbert, not exspecting any, And
after Sermon M^r ffitzherbert sayd, that if the poeple in this Riuer
would heare him, hee would come now & then and giue them a
Sermon. Hee asked them how they liked his doctrine; But hee heard
nobody make answere to him. The next day being Sunday this
Depon^t & his Wife goeing to M^r Brooke, hee mett there M^r ffitz-
herbert who asked him againe how hee liked his doctrine? Who

answered th^t some things he & other some hee did not like.
M^r ffitzherbert then asked him what those things were he did not
like? & walked out w^th this Depon^t, where they had a quarter of an
howers discourse & in discourse hee gaue him this Depon^t indifferent
good satisfaction, his memory being but weake in Scripture & in
conclusion of the discourse Cap^t Tho: Brooke came & called the s^d
M^r ffitzherbert into dinner & (whither after dinner or afore he
remembreth not) hee gaue him a little Catechisme booke, desyring
him to reade it. Bidding him after hee had read th^t Booke, call to
Richard Games for another Booke, & further sayth not.
