The Lower House. 221


A Sufficient Number of members to Compose a Lower House of
Assembly being met at the Stadt House. Ordered Mr Dulany and
Mr Harris go and acquaint his Excellency thereof they Return and
Say they deliver'd the Message.

Philip Lee and George Pleater Esqrs from the Upper House and
Mr John Ross Clerk of the Council came into the Stadt House in
whose presence the aforesaid Members took the Oaths of Allegiance
Abhorrence and Abjuration to his Majesty King George the Second
Repeated the Test and Signed the said Oaths and Tests.
Col Ward and Benjamin Tasker Esqr from the Upper House In-
formed the said Members that the Governor required their Imme-
diate Attendance in the Council Chamber who there upon went. The
Governour Required them to return to their House and Make Choice
of a Speaker, they returned and Unanimously Chose Daniel Dulany
Esqr to be their Speaker and placed him in the Chair.
James Harris Esqr and Mr Smith Ordered to Acquaint his Ex-
cellency the Governour this House had made Choice of a Speaker.
They return and say they delivered the Message Philip Lee and
George Pleater Esqrs from the Upper House Acquaint this House
his Excellency the Governour requires their Attendance in the
Council Chamber to Present their Speaker.
The Members of this House went and presented to his Excellency
the Governour Daniel Dulany Esqr as their Speaker who Excused
himself from serving thro his want of Health which Excuse the
Governour was pleased to admit and thereupon Desired the mem-
bers of this House to Return and Choose some other fit Person to
be their Speaker; they return and make Choice of James Harris
Esqr to be their Speaker and placed him in the Chair.
Mr Key and Mr Hammond Sent to the Upper House to Acquaint
his Excellency the Governour this House hath made Choice of A
Speaker, they return and Say they Delivered the Message. Col
Tilghman from the Upper House Acquaints this House that the
Governour desires the attendance of this House in the Council
Chamber to present their Speaker.
The Members of this House went to the Council Chamber and
there Presented James Harris Esqr their Speaker to his Excellency
the Governour the governour was pleased to approve of the said
Speaker and thereupon Made the following Speech.

The House returned Mr Speaker resumed the Chair. The House
Proceeded to the Choice of a Clerk and Chose Mr Michael Macne-
mara. Mr Hammond and Mr Hemsley were Sent to the Upper
House to present the said Macnemara to the Governour for his
Approbation and to see him Qualified.
