The Memorial of Jacob Henderson Clerk in behalf of the Clergy
of the two several Parishes in St Marys & Charles Countys within
the sd province, that is to say, Wm Maconchie of Port Tobaco Parish,
Clark, & Jon Donaldson of King's & Queen's Parishes in St Mary's
County.
Sheweth
That the Ministers in those Countys are generally Aggrieved by an
Act of Assembly pass'd in that province at the session began & held in
July 1729 & now Transmitted to yr Lordship under Seal intituled an
Act concerng the Parishes in St. Mary's & Charles County.
That the sd Act in the life of the sevt Incumbents without any
Allowance to them, or their consents thereto, Divides & cuts off great
part of their Parishes & Incomes, & annexes the same to their
Parishes on Pretence to make up a Suitable Allowance for the
Ministers of such other Parishes which yr petr humbly apprehends is
not only injurious to the seval Clergymen who are by that means
deprived of their Freehold but extending the Legislative Authority
in Maryland to greater lengths than is attempted in Parliamt in
Great Britain who in such cases never take away the Right of the
present Incumbent during his life witht his consent
Whereupon yr petr humbly prays yr Ldsp that the sd Act may be
Dissented to & totally Repealed.
And yr petr shall ever pray &ca.

NB. upon the sd petition's being presented & Read, his Ldsp gave
a Hearing thereto, & it being proved contrary to the Legislative
Authority, & reason, to divide any Living during the Life of the
Incumbent without his consent his Ldsp Dissented to the Above-
mentioned Act Janry the 30th 1729
