Tlie Form of the Oath Administer'd to the New Governor, viz.

I. A: B: Do Swear that I will be true & faithful to the Rt Honble
.... Lord Baron of Baltimore the true Absolute Lord & Proprietary
of this Province of Maryland, & his Heirs, & Him & Them, & his &
their Rights, Royal Jurisdictions & Seignories all & every of into
& over this his Province of Maryland the Islands & Territories
thereunto belonging I will at all times Defend & Maintain to the
utmost of my power, & will never Accept any place Office or Imploy-
ment within the sd province any wav concerning or relating to the
Governmt thereof, from any person or Authority but by from or
under a Lawful Authority derived or to be derived from his sd Lordsp
as his Governor or Comander in Chief of the sd Province, & in all
other Offices comitted to my charge by his sd Ldsp's Common or
Commons to me, & will willingly yield up the sd Comon or Comons
again & all offices Powers & Authoritys granted or to be granted
by them or any of them into the Hands of his sd Ldsp & his Heirs
& Assigns or to such person or persons as He or they shall appoint
whomsoever He or They shall appoint me so to do, & shall signify
the Same unto me; and will not presume to put in Execution or
Attempt to Execute any Office Power or Authority granted unto me
by any of the sd Commissions after that his said Lordship or his
Heirs & Assigns Lords & Proprietaries of the sd Province shall repeal
them or any of them respectively, & that the sd repeals be publish'd
within this Province; I will do equal Right & Justice to the poor & to
the Rich within this Province to the best of my skill Judgement &
Power according to the Laws & Ordinances of the sd Province, & in
Default thereof according to my Conscience & best Discretion & the

power granted or to be Granted unto me by his said Lordship's
Common or Commons, I will not for fear favor or Affection, or
any other cause hinder or Delav Justice to any, but will truely
execute the sd office & Offices respectively according to his sd Ldsp's
Comon to me in that Behalf & to the true Intent & meaning thereof
& not otherwise, to the best of my understanding & Judgement; I
will not know of any Attempt against his sd Ldsp's person or his
Right & Dominion into or over the sd Province or the people therein,
but I will prevent Resist or oppose it to the. utmost of my power &
make the same known with all convenient speed to his sd Ldsp; &
I will in all things from time to time as occasion shall require faith-
fully counsel & advise his sd Lordship according to my Heart & Con-
science. So Help me God.
