424 Assembly Proceedings, July 11-August 8, 1732.

U. H. J.

By the Upper house of Assembly 3d August 1732

On reading and Considering the within Bill we are of Opinion
that the Duties of Twenty Shillings Sterling and Twenty Shilling's
Currency already Imposed by former Acts of Assembly are Suffi-
cient to hinder the Importation of Irish Papists into this Province,
besides We are apprehensive that should We lay too great a Duty
upon them it might induce some persons who may think themselves
injured by it, to make such Representations of the Case as may
occasion the taking off the whole Duty, and therefore We desire that
part of the Bill imposing an Additional duty of Twenty shillings
Sterling, may be omitted, with which Amendment this Bill will pass.
Signed p Order John Ross Cl. Up. Ho.
