nay the funds that are directed for the maintenance of Schools
are of so inconsiderable a Value that unless you think Proper
to make better Provision to that Pious and usefull End, even
the School of Annapolis which begins to encrease and flourish
must for want of due Support be laid aside.
The Province is now in the most happy Condition that ever
it was since the first Settlement. I bless God I live to see the
Happy Change in Your Affairs, since then Providence has
been so Indulgent to you and put the means into Yor hands
Exert yourselves to advance the Honr & Intrest of Your
Country for the Particular good of your Children who were
they Sensible of the irretrivable Loss they will Sustain in the
want of a Liberall Education in their Youth, They would
joyn their Tears to my Intreaties.
By the Lords Propry & Guilford's Comands I laid before
the last Sessions of Assembly his Lpps Right to the Ordinary
Lycences and at your request it was left to the Consideracdn
of this Session I have again received Instructions to the like
Purpose and shall Communicate them to You And hope they,
will meet with no Difficulty Considering the just Claim of my
Lord Proprietary & the urgent Necessity of a regulation in
the Ordinarys.
Gentlemen. As my Lords Proprietary and Guilford have
most Obligingly Complyed wth whatever you thought Proper
to request of their Lordships, And as their Lpps have given you
all Assurance of Maintaining your Laws and Preserving to
you your rights and Priviledges, It will lye then upon you to
make such gratefull returns as may give his Lpp the strongest
proofs of your dutifull Affections which in Effect is all tht is
expected from you. A remarkable Instance what Felicity you
do and may enjoy under the Noble Family of Baltemore.

And his Excy was pleased to deliver Mr Speaker the fol-
lowing Answer from the Lords Baltemore and Guilford to
the Address of the Upper and Lower Houses of Assembly
in July 1716 which was Ordered to be entered as follows Viz:

The Answer of the Right Honble Francis Lord Guilford
Guardian to the right Honble Charles Lord Baltemore Abso-
lute Lord and Propry of the Provinces of Maryland and
Avalon for and on his behalf To the Address of the Upper
and Lower Houses of Assembly of the Province of Maryland.

full Address and in a most Particular manner commend the
