Interest in this Province together with the ardent & hearty
Profession of the Lord Proprys being a true Protestant of the
Church of England I hope will Obviate the Malitious sug-
gestion of such as have Represented his Lordships being a
Papist in masquerade And that this publick & frank Declara-
tion of the purity of his Lordships Faith will engage & Secure
to his Lordship the Hearts & Esteem of all the good People of
Maryland
My Lords Propry & Guilford having Exprest their Tender
regard for the welfare of this Province, in such Pathetick &
Affectionate Terms that I am psuaded a Repetition of some
part of them will be far from being unacceptable to you since
they Contain in a few harmonious Words all that so reas-
onable a people as you are can hope for or desire from your
Superior. The Words are these.
Gent We have at heart the Welfare and Prosperity of the
People of this Province equall to that of our own And are
determined not to do anything to seperate that Union which
may tend so much to the comon good.
Gent I shall lay before you what reason moved their Lordps
to dissent to that Act for laying an Additionall duty of four
pounds p poll on Irish Servants which I hope will give you
Satisfaction.
Gent of the Lower House.
Their Lordships have Acquainted you that the Act Ascer-
taining the Gauge & Tare of Tobacco hogsheads wherein
there is a Provision for the Lord Proprys Revenue and the
