ance do prevent & Obstruct them in their hunting fishing and
fowling & setting Traps in their grounds for takeing Raccoons
& other Vermin notwithstanding that it is Stipulated by the
Governmt with the Indians Inhabiting within this Province
that they shall Exercise & Enjoy that freedom and Previlege
inviolable all which tends to the breach of the Publick Peace,
& manifest Injury and Oppression of the Indians. Wherefore
with the Advice of his Lordships honble Councill I have thought
fit to Issue this my Proclamation Strictly Comanding, enjoyn-
ing and requiring all and Singular the Inhabitants of this
Province that they forbear to molest or otherwise Obstruct
any Indians whatsoever in Peace & Amity with this pvince
in their hunting Fishing, and fowling or otherwise Setting
Trapps within their grounds as the said Indians have formerly
been used and accustomed to do On pain of being Prosecuted
as disturbers of the Publick Peace According to the utmost
Severity of the Law. And to the end that all psons may have
due notice hereof and none plead Ignorance but Conforme
themselves thereto I do comand & require the severall Sheriffs
of the Respective Covinties within this Province duly to publish
the same by reading thereof at the several parish Churches
in their Counties at the time of divine Service and by Affixing
fair Copies thereof at the Court Houses & Church Doors
whereof they are not to fail at their Perills.

Conferrence
The following Message being prepared is sent to the Lower
House Viz.

By the Uper house of Assembly June 4th 1717

Gent. On the Complaint of the Indians of Copanquo Town
in Somersett County in relation to some hardships they lie
under from the Inhabitants of that County And forasmuch
as the Law formerly made to decide differences between the
English & Indians within this Province only Impowcred some
particular p sons in some Counties (most whereof are dead)
to make descition of Controversies ariseing not Exceeding
Twenty shillings We think it highly necessary that a Law be
