456 Minutes of the Board of Revenue, 1768-1775.

as also carefully to examine the Instructions issued by Them,
with those the Deputy Surveyors have Acted under hereto-
fore & find them in substance the same, the 22d Article only
excepted, (to which no real Objections can lie) and the Oath
prescribed, & the latter being solely intended to prevent any
undue Measures being pursued by the said Deputies to the
prejudice of the Public. The Board therefore determine that
no alteration ought to be made in either, being of Opinion that
on due enquiry proper Persons may be found that will qualify
under them as they now stand.
Reuben Meriwether, Esqr exhibits an Account, to the Board,
of the Cost & Charges of a Set of Books to transcribe the
Rentals of the Western Shore into, agreeable to Instructions

p. 95

given him. Ordered that the said Account do pass, and that
the Clerk do certify the same to His Lordship's Agent that
Mr Meriwether may receive payment.
The Board adjourn 'til the 3d Tuesday of October next.

October 17th 1769

The Board, by agreement heretofore, having fixed on the
third Tuesday in October to meet annually, but there not being
any Members in Town, to attend, except His ExceP the Gov-
ernor and the Honble George Steuart, Esqr who are present,
The Clerk, by Order, Adjourns the Board 'til Saturday the
21st Instant of which the absent members to have Notice.

October 21st 1769.
The Board meet according to Adjournment. Present.
His Excellency Robert Eden Esqr

The Honble Daniel Dulany, Esqr
The Honble George Steuart, Esqr
& Thomas Jenings, Esqr

In consequence of Instructions received from the Honble
Walter Dulany, Esqr on behalf of Colo Young, Surveyor
General of the Eastern Shore: The Clerk, by Letter, ac-
quainted William Hayward, Esqr that Colo Young wanted
Deputies in Talbot & Worcester Counties and requesting him
to enquire of Persons properly qualified therein, & who might
be desirous of accepting thereof. In Answer to which the
Clerk receiv'd the following extract of a Letter, Viz.
" I have mentioned to William Sharpe the office of Deputy
Surveyor of Talbot County, that he accepts thereof, & shall
be much Obliged to you if his appointment is confirm'd. I
have been so long from below, that I really know not who to
