526 Correspondence of Gov. Horatio Sharpe, 1754-1765.

recd The inclosed Rent Roll of Calvert County is recd Con-
cerng you write of Mr Stuart of his Charge on Me his deten-
tion of the Surplus Money on Vacancy of Mr Young Judge
of the Land Office, his Demise, I have examined. My Letrs
to him he has No such Direction from Me, tell him to pro-
duce it. Suffer Me not to stand Guilty of Anticipation with
you.

Our Events agt the Enemy this Year will Ever be Illus-
trious in the British Annals, great Honour to our King &
Country, four Signals St James's Cannon has proclaim'd
Prince Ferdinand in the Plains of Minden, Admiral Bos-
cawen Lagos Bay, Genl Wolf Quebec City, Sr Edwd Hawk
of Bell Isle & thanksgiving to the Almighty in wh is included
Sr Wm Johnson's Action of Niagara Genl Amherst of Ticon-
darago & crown Point & of Admiral Pocock Success's in the
East Indies & a Plentiful Harvest Remarkable this year.
Brave times when Men can say to one another Here's to you,
God save the King. We have Bearded the French.

I have the pleasure to Acquaint you as a Token of his
Lordships Estimation of your Merit & Service to Him, he
has a Massy figured Gold Snuff Box with the Provincial
Arms Engraved wh by the first opportunity he will send you
for Acceptance, the inclosed News Papers of Particulars
May all Health & Happiness Attend you is the sincere wish
of. Yr Thankful Servt

the Seizure of Mr Talbot Estate, if you think there is any
other Matter Necessary send it. Mr Young of whom you
have write, informes Me of a Report that he is to be dis-
placed, requests continuance that his Circumstances are low
& has lost his house by fire. As you wrote posponing yr
proposition abt him I imagine Yr transcriber Blabs. By My
Post to Mr Lloyd, if he does not resign he is Warn'd of re-
moval unless you make him part of the Scheme herein pro-
posed, wh will take place on Minits from you how to Plan
& in wh I hope your Benefit. I know not of the Building of
the Land Office, if it is wanting My Lord must inlarge &
make it c.omodious. The French King has Stop'd paymt on
all his Funds & call'd in all the Plate of his Kingdom one
fourth of the Value to be paid the Remdr to be on Credit
