504 Correspondence of Gov. Horatio Sharpe, 1754-1765.

the Sheriff of Dorchester County My Lord desiers you'l
Note Him for Fraud & unworthy of Future service und:
him, if this be so. I am at a Loss How to Judge Mr Lloyd,
think he is not as I have reason to wish him with My Lord &
right to you. He seems of a freting Discontent, shadow
of Lowe triffling Inginuity. I know not who he likes, he
likes not Mr Tasker, Mr Dulany nor Mr Bordley, he consults
I understand with Mr Chamberlaine, of whom I am inform'd
is not the best, wavering, prehaps it may be to his Age.
Reflection wod confine his Duty & friendship to My Lord
in Gratitude, he has been Honoured & Rewarded well by

Dissolution. The Controversial Matter on the Modus By
Bill for raising the Money is the Mimick of the Pensilvania
Assembly refused by the Proprietors of that Colony, & not
as yet here, nor can I Learn from the Opponents when or
How they will proceed by Complt The Copys of the Mary-
land Bills transmitted, contain Taxes abundant of the Pen-
silvania System. A Tax on Officers in Office Public is in
England, But not upon Officers in private Concern. With
what reason can they Tax My Lord's Private Officers?
inter als. the Land Office, Receiver Genl &ca with the same
parity Why not their Officers of Land concern &ca the Lo.
House can warrant no such Tax from a British Parliament,
nor a Tax on Quit-Rent, a smal Rent of Acknowledgment
payable by the Tenant of most Manours in England to the
Supreme Lord of the ffee, of which right the Proprietor of
