496 Correspondence of Gov. Horatio Sharpe, 1754-1765.

Bill of Ex^a for £46: 18. being one of the Bills you had sent
me for paym^t the Person she had drawn the Bill was not to
be found, by report gone to Maryl^d I hope you have rec^d
mine of the 13^th of May 22^d of Aug^t & Sepf the 9^th as they
are of Importance with Instructions. You Surprise me at
Doctor Stuart's hint to you ab^t the money in the Land Office
il being near a year since a joint Judge has been Added so
to him. If I had Power, he wo^d n't a been the man I sho^d
have directed such Gratuity. You may depend he has no
Authority from me for his Ascertion or Claim. I've rec^d
from him the whole paym^t of £100 p^r Ann due to 28^th of
feb^y last, in w^h was included M^r Young's Deces^d paym^t for
each p^d me £50 p^r Ann the D^r was then in Arrears to me
however as I rec^d all due from him I desired he would ajust
M^r Young's Quota with the Exc^y & th^t from M^r Young's
Death until the appointment of another Person jointly with
him I shos^d expect the whole of my Return from him this is
all in Effect I write. I am sensible the Emergency & Ex-
pence a Gov^r is at requires all Aid to Reimburse him his
Charges, therefore Credit him not, nor none else that shall
at any time say or hint the same. On my part I regard all
such perquisites belong in Preference to the Gov^r I wo^d n't
let him have a denier

But as Gov^r ajust & reimburse my Legal Demands, Extras.
I am sorry you have appointed him to Act in My office of
Sec^y as you had done it I have write him word I wo^d allow
him 10 p^r C^t until my Appointm^t of Deputy took place.
I beg the favour of y^r Inspection by an ajustmt of Acc^ts
since M^r Jenings Resignation. If M^r Plater did Accept My
Ball: due from fees was at £200 p^r Ann. If he did not then
all frees are due to me to M^r Tasker's acceptance, he paying
me after as p^r Agreem^t with M^r Plater. As to the Charges
for Execution of the business of the office during the Inter
space before M^r Plater or Stuart Act'd such Charge I desire
may be reimbursed to the Clerk or Person who Acted in the
Office.
