under his Matys Consideration before he was graciously pleased
to reinstate his Lordship in his Right of Governmt nor ever
assented to by his Lordship he does not think it a Barr to him
from Executeing his Lordship's Comission which when he
received it did not enter into his thoughts, That his Lordships
Governour would require more of him then the Governours
under the Crown ever did for these 25 years past dureing
which time he has had the honour to serve his Lordship and
the people of this Province without reproach and he believes
that his faithful services and the Justness of his accounts with
his Lordship's Ancestors was the only Inducement his Lord-
ship had to Committ the receipt of the revenue of this Prov-
ince rather to his care then to others who phaps were not so
well known in the family.
To what is desired he answers that his Lordship has not
yet appointed any Surveyrs Genlls Consequently there can be
no Deputy Surveyors, but his Lordship and the Lord Guil-
ford his Guardian have sent in 12 Comocs for Surveyors with
Directions to grant them to protestants in such Countys
where his Lordships Surveyors' places were usually Executed
by Protestants while the Governmt was in the Crown and that
upon the death or Just cause of removeal of any such Sur-
veyors or any other officer or officers in offices usually held
by Protestants none should be putt in their Roomes but protes-
tants, but none of the said Comons are as yet Issued because
Mr Walter Pye and Mr Henry Sewall who have the Distribu-
tion of the said Comons haveing mett with some disappointment
therein from the Governmt (as they say) for which reason his
