An Act prohibiting the Carrying of Liquors to the Indian Towns
or Selling any Quanty of Strong Liquors to the Indians to pre-
vent Differences between them and his Majtys Subjects and

to punish the transporters of any friend Indian or Indians
out of this province.

Be itt Enacted by the Kings most Excellent Majesty by and
with the Advice and Consent of his Majesties Governr Coun-
cill and Assembly of this province and the Authority of the
same that from and after the publication hereof any person or
persons whatsoever Inhabiting or Trading into this province
that shall presume to Cary any Liquors whatsoever to any In-
dian fort or Town and shall Vend or Dispose of the same to
any Indian or Indians whatsoever such person or psons shall
forfeit the Sume of five thousand pounds of Tobo one halfe to
our Sovereigne Lord the King his heirs and Successors to-
wards the Support of Government the other halfe to him or
them that shall Informe or Sue for the Same to be recovered
in any Court of Record within this province by Action of Debt
bill plaint or Information wherein no Essoyne protection or
wager of Law to be Allowed. And whereas itt is represented
to this Genll Assembly that of Late Sevll Disorders and riotts
have been Comitted by Drunken Indians in Order to prevent
Such like future Misfeazances and Outrages —
Be itt Enacted by the Authority Advice and Consent afd
that if Any person or persons whatsoever from and after the
end of this present Sessions of Assembly shall by himselfe or

Servant or otherwise Directly or Indirectly Vend or Sell to any
Indian or Indians in the Space of one day above one Gallon
of Rum wine brandy or Spiritts or above five Gallons of Cyder
Perry Quince drink or Strong beer such person or persons be-
ing Convicted thereof shall fforfeit the Sume of Three thou-
sand pounds of Tobo to our Sovereigne Lord the Kings Majesty
his heirs And Successors the one halfe thereof to be Applyed
towards Defraying the County Charge the other halfe to him
or them that shall sue for the Same to be recovered in any
Court of Record within this province by Action of Debt bill
plaint or Information wherein no Essoyne protection or wager
of Law to be Allowed. And forasmuch as it is Very Observ-
able and Manifest that Sundry ill Disposed persons have often-
times by Spreading Lies and false reports raised and fomented
Unaccountable heats and Jealousies between the Indians & his
Majesties Subjects of this province for the prevention of the
said ill practices for the future —

Be itt Enacted by the Authority Advice and Consent
afd that if any person or persons whatsoever shall wittingly
or willingly raise Spread and Utter any false feigned Stories
