Sent by Col Holland Col Greenfield Mr Hall and Col
Addison
Ordered that the Clerk of this Board take the same fees on
private Bills from the several persons Interested therein as
are allowed this Session therefore by the Delegates to their
Clerk
Mr Tyler & Col Mackall brought up

By the House of Delegates
November the 14th 1713

The Season of the year being so far advanced and almost
half of the House being Sick in Town & gone home We
desire your Honours to expedite the Bill for assessing the
publick Levy & appoint when some of the Members of this
House shall attend on your Honours to see the Laws Sealed
& Close this Session without further Charge to the Country

The Petition of Elizabeth Spurrier being read at the Board
Viz.

To the Honourable Edward Lloyd Esqr President of the
Province of Maryland & Keeper of the Great Seal thereof

The humble Petition of Eliz Spurrier a Prisoner in the
Coale of the City of Annapolis

p. 872

Humbly Sheweth unto your Honour that your poor Peti-
tioner has been tried & Arraigned this last Provincial Court
for murthering a Live Male Infant born of her Body that your
Petitioner protesting she was a married Woman pleaded not
guilty thereto.

That a Jury was Empannelled to try her & the Evidence
that came or could be produced against her could make noth-
ing appear against her but that she was delivered of a Child
which Child was found dead tho no mortal Wounds or even
the least Signs of any such appeared on the Body of the
Child. That the Council having then Spoke for your Peti-
tioner that such Evidence was not Sufficient Law to maintain
the Indictment being an Indictmt at common Law & not on
the Statute in that Case made & provided Your Petitioners
Council & all other Slanders by unconcerned seemed to
understand that the Court and Jury also were of that opinion
Which occasioned your poor Petit' who could only Speak to
facts to forbear giving in Evidence to the Court & Jury that
she was a loansome Woman having none near her but men
