Which was read and upon reading the first Part of the said ;
Message it's the Opinion of the House that it is the Secretary's
Duty to remove the Chest and take Care of the Papers And
Ordered he be sent for and acquainted therewith
The Secretary appeared and Mr Speaker acquainted him
that it was the Opinion of the House that it was his Duty to
take the Chest and secure it in his Office and that he take a
List of all the Papers Books and Certificates therein and lay
before this House the next Session of Assembly which he
promised to do. And then Mr Secretary withdrew. And
Ordered the other Part of the Message be referred till to
Morrow Morning for Consideration
Bill for Relief of Tobias and John Pollard, read the second
Time & will pass
Bill for Relief of Thomas Edmonson &ca Read the first
Time and ordered a second Reading
Bill for Relief of Matthew Mason Read the first Time and
ordered a second Reading to Morrow Morning And that Mr
Ivy had Liberty to attend the House and make his Objections
(if any)
The House adjourns till to Morrow Morning Nine O'Clock

Thursday November 3d 1709

The House met according to Adjournment and being called
over were present as Yesterday
Ordered That Mr John Salter, Mr Robins, Mr Dare, Mr
Colegate and Mr Hemsley be and are appointed to go out and
view the Court House Building and see if Mr Bladen has
complyed with his Bargain & report it to the House with all
convenient Speed.

Mr Bladen's Petition read and is referred till the Gentlemen
appointed to view the Court House make their Report
Petition of Thomas Redding read and rejected
Report from the Committee of Laws ordered to be entered
Viz.

By the Committee of Laws Wednesday 2nd November 1709.

As to the Law relating to poor Debtors &ta it's the Opinion
of this Committee that it will be convenient to make an Act
of Assembly to suspend the Execution of the said Act till the
End of the next Session of Assembly. And as to the Law agt
Importation of Bread and Flour &ta it is the Opinion of this
Committee that it will be best for the Interest of this Province
to make a Law to allow the Importation of Indian Corn till
the tenth of October next and not repeal the whole Law.
