On the behalf of her Majesty &c I will this be a Law.

An Act Declaring how ffees for Naturalization and other pri
vate Laws shall be proportion'd.

Whereas divers Complaints have been made that several
persons have Exacted and taken imoderate ffees of Persons for
private bills for prevention whereof for the ffuture.
Be it enacted by the Queens most excellent Majesty by and
with the Advice and Consent of her Majestys Governour
Councill and Assembly of this Province and the Authority of
the Same that the ffees to be taken by the severall Clerks and
Officers belonging to the Assembly for Naturalization and
other private laws be such as shall be allowed and adjudg'd by
the respective Assemblys when and where such persons shall
be Naturalized and Such bill passd and that no person whatso-
ever presume to demand or exact any more ffees of any such
persons Naturaliz'd or for whom such private Act shall pass
than what are so allow'd and to be allowed under the penalty
of two thousand pounds of Tobacco to every such person
exacting or extorting more than what is or shall be allowed
by such Assembly Assessing the ffees as afd The said {forfeiture
to be recovered in any Court of Record of this Province by
Action of Debt bill plaint or Information wherein no Essoyn
Protection or Wager of Law to be allowed, the one half to her
Majesty for the Support of the Government of this Province
the other half to the party grieved.
