Proprietary and his heires Lord Proprietary or Lords Proprie-
tarys of this Province under the yearly rent of one Bever Skinn
to be paid to his said Lordship and his Heires as other Rents
in this Province by the English us'd to be paid
Provided allways that it shall and may be lawfull for any
person or persons that hath formerly taken up and obtain'd
any Grants from the Lord Baltemore for any Tracts or parcells
of Land within the aforesaid Boundarys upon the Indians
Deserting or leaving the said land to enter occupy and enjoy
the Same anything in this Law to the Contrary notwithstanding.
And be it further Enacted by the Authority aforesaid that it
shall not nor may be lawfull for the Lord Baltemore to ask
have or demand any Rent or Service for any of the said Tracts
or Dividends as may or have been taken up as aforesaid within
the said Indians Boundarys untill Such time that the takers up
or Owners aforesd do enjoy or possess the same Any Law
usage or Custom to the Contrary notwithstanding.

On behalf of her Majesty &c. I will this be a Law
Jo : Seymour

An Act to prevent the Growth of Popery within this Province.

Be it Enacted by the Queens most Excellent Majesty by and
with the Advice and Consent of her Majestys Governour
Councill and Assembly of this Province and the Authority of
the same that whatsoever Popish Bishop Priest or Jesuite shall
baptize any Child or Children other than such who have
Popish Parents or shall say Mass or exercise the ffunction of a
Popish Bishop or Priest within this Province or shall endeavour
to perswade any of her Majestys Leige people of this Province
to embrace and be reconciled to the Church of Rome and
shall be thereof legally Convict shall forfeit the sume of fifty
pounds Sterling for every such Offence the one half thereof to
our Sovereign Lady the Queen her heires and Successors for
the Support of the Government of this Province and the other
half thereof to him or them that will sue for the same to be
recovered in any Court of Record within this Province by bill
Plaint or Information wherein no Essoyn Protection or Wager
of Law to be allowed and shall also Suffer six Months imprison-
ment of his or their body or bodys without bayle or Mainprize.
