88 Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1700.
Lib. x. shall be bound to apprehend the said Fugitives & bring them to the next english Plantations to be Conveyed to their Masters & in case any Indian aforesaid shall convey or assist such Fugitives in their Flight out of this Province that he shall make the Respective Master or Masters of such Ser vants or Slaves Such Satisfaction as an English man ought to do in the like Case 7thly That the said Ocquotomaquah shall not make any new Peace with our Enemies nor shall make any war without the consent of the Govt of this Province for the time being 8thly In case the said Ocquotomaquah or any Indian Sub ject to him shall kill any Indians or any other in peace and Amity with his said Majesty it shall be esteemed as great an Offence as killing an English man 9thly That neither the said Emperor nor any of the Indians under his Subjection do at any time hereafter keep harbour or Entertain amongst them or within their Fort any Foreign or strange Indians or know or discover any such to appear or come within the Province without giving timely and all Possible & speedy notice thereof to his Excellency the Gov ernor or some other Officer a person of note by whom the same may be communicated with all Expedition to the said Governor or Govr of this Provs for the time being for his Advice & Direction therein p. 239 10thly That as a further I'estimony of their League peace & Friendship with his Majesty & as they expect protection from him & his Government here they be paid by the said Emperor a tribute to his said Majesty an Indian Bow & two Arrows to be delivered to his Excellency the Governor or the Governor for the time being at his Residence wheresoever the same shall happen to be on the first Tuesday in April every year Successively 11thly And lastly as a full & ample Proof & assurance of the said Emperors Fidelity truth & sincerity he does Solemnly promise engage & oblige himself with his wife & Children to come and Live at pumuncky within two months time from the date hereof & will do his utmost endeavour to perswade all his Indians to come and live there Likewise in conforma tion whereof his said Excellency the Govr & likewise the said Emperor himself do mutually sign acknowledge & Deliver to each other the aforeging Articles in the presence of the Gentlemen of his Majestys honble Council & the great men of the said Emperor this 9th day of April 1700 Signed +N Blakiston Ocquotomaquah V Emperor of Piscaty
